Is there a clearing house website somewhere where I can get information on local house painters?

Or camping mattresse would the local Business Bureau have a rating system? I don’t want to hire some fly by night person who is going to make a mess and then disappear. I’ve heard of Angie’s List; is th is a reliable source of information?
